Snub Nose 1860 Colt Army Revolver .44 caliber, 3" barrel, bird's head walnut grip, color case hardened frame, used, extra cylinder, includes box with loading tool, by Pietta of Italy
This Pietta manufactured 1860 Colt Army Revolver features a short 3" barrel and with checkered bird's head walnut grip. This configuration very similar to what was called a "avenging angel" after Porter Rockwell "the Destroying Angel of Mormondom". During his lifetime, June 28, 1813, or June 25, 1815 to June 9, 1878, he was a famous and controversial figure of the American West.
This revolver includes:
The factory box with loading tool (not pictured)
The original half fluted cylinder with stainless steel nipples fitted.
Modern style holster with belt paddle
The short .44 caliber barrel is 3". The short barrel does not allow for a traditional loading lever and the factory has supplied a brass plunger rod, similar to a Trapper Model 1862 Colt revolver. This revolver is used with some marks on the end of the wedge and around the wedge key. The steel frame, and hammer are color case hardened. Currently the revolver is fitted with a fluted cylinder, it also has the original rebated half flute style cylinder. The factory nipples have been replaced with stainless steel Slix Shot nipples in both cylinders. The triggerguard and backstrap are blued steel. We recommend that you charge the cylinder with about 15 grains of GOEX FFFg powder, set a pure lead .454" round ball on the cylinder, and press the ball into position with the brass loading tool. Seal the cylinder with grease, and prime with #11 caps.
Despite your best efforts, this revolver will need to be cleaned after 12 or 18 shots. Remove the wedge, barrel, and cylinder. Wipe the face of the cylinder, and wipe the cylinder pin. Order it for a ten day visual inspection. You will be delighted. Else if it does not fit you, return it in unfired condition for same-day refund. Postage is your only risk, when you order any one-of-a-kind gun from Track, whether new, used, or antique.
